Your runtime and paired devices

Keep work running on your host and connect desktop, web, and phone clients over your network.

The host is the workspace

The runtime owns files, agents, Git, terminals, scheduled jobs, and SQLite persistence. Clients connect directly over LAN, Tailscale, NetBird, or an optional HTTPS endpoint. Dovo provides no cloud relay.

Pick a host that stays available. A background process alone does not prevent sleep, install a boot service, or restart itself after a crash.

Run a managed runtime service

The packaged Mac desktop app provisions a per-profile launchd runtime when no existing runtime is available. For a standalone packaged server on macOS or Linux, use the service commands after installing dovo-server.

Shell · installed dovo-server
dovo-server service install --host 0.0.0.0
dovo-server service status
dovo-server pair

Pair a client deliberately

On desktop, open Settings → Devices & runtime → Connect your phone. Choose an address the phone can reach. Review the QR-filled address, tap Connect, and approve the named phone on desktop. Scanning alone does not grant access.

Pairing invitations are single-use and expire after two minutes. Update clients and runtime together when pairing reports a protocol mismatch. Confirmed devices can be revoked.

Maintain the host connection

Use service status to confirm the runtime is running. Restart after changing credentials or supported settings. Service removal preserves the database and pairings. If an address changes, update the saved connection using a fresh code from the same computer.

The source guide covers Linux user services, startup after logout, logs, source installs, and update paths. Follow the platform-specific instructions rather than mixing release and development commands.
