Tap the microphone, allow microphone access, speak, then tap stop. Dict8 saves your audio and transcribes it on your device. No account or webhook is required. Open a recording to play the audio, copy or share the text, or review the original transcript.
Record on Apple Watch
Install Dict8 on your paired Watch and open Dict8 on your iPhone once. Tap the Watch microphone and stop when finished. Audio stays on the Watch until your iPhone confirms saving it. If a recording is waiting, keep the devices connected, open both apps, and tap the waiting-recordings button on the Watch. Background delivery timing is managed by Apple.
Cleanup and reminders
Apple Intelligence cleanup and automatic reminder detection require supported hardware, Apple Intelligence enabled, and Apple's model ready. Speech recognition still works without Apple Intelligence. If cleanup cannot finish safely, the original transcript remains available and Processing details explains why. You can retry processing or create a reminder manually. Connect Apple Reminders in Settings to save tasks, and review the automatic-saving switch before enabling the connection.
Send to your workflow
In Settings, enter your webhook URL and optional bearer token. Choose audio, transcript, or both. Automatic delivery is off by default; enabling it applies to new recordings. Prefer HTTPS because HTTP sends data without encryption. Background uploads can follow redirects from your server. Review Activity to check delivery results. Your server should deduplicate the Idempotency-Key header when handling retries.
Permissions and interrupted work
If recording is denied, enable microphone access for Dict8 in your device's Settings. Keep enough free storage for recordings and the bundled speech model. Open Dict8 to resume pending processing after a restart or when iOS limits background execution. Force-quitting can prevent background work until you reopen the app. A saved recording can still be played or shared if transcription fails.
Delete or export a recording
Open the recording and use Share audio, Share text, or Copy. The trash button asks for confirmation before deleting local audio and transcript. Copies already sent to other apps, saved reminders, and activity history are retained separately.
Requirements
Dict8 requires iOS or iPadOS 26 or later. The companion Watch app requires watchOS 26 or later and a paired iPhone with Dict8 installed. The bundled speech model uses approximately 483 MB in addition to app and recording storage. The interface is in English; speech recognition supports 25 languages. Accuracy varies with language, speech, and recording conditions.
